So we all knew that this period drama starring Shahid Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut and Saif Ali Khan was based during the time of World War II but we didn’t really know what the plot shall be. It was going to revolve around the actress while the actors played her love interest in the movie. We were obviously a bit curious to know since the project is being helmed by none other Vishal Bharadwaj and he’s known for making movies like Haider, Kaminey and Omkara to name few. Also the fact that Kangana gave her nod to this is extremely interesting. She’s known for being extremely choosy for the roles she signs, so when she opted for Rangoon, we were definitely rolling our eyes. And now that the plot is revealed, we know the real reason what made these actors sign it.

As per reports, Kangana plays the role of Mary Ann Evans aka Fearless Nadia in this upcoming movie. A source close to the project reveals that, “The film is based on Bollywood’s original stuntwoman also known as hunter wali.” So what do Shahid and Saif play in it? Well she’s romantically involved with both of them . “In the earlier part of her journey, she meets this Indian officer (Shahid) who is fighting for British army (World War II) and falls in love with him. Later when she comes to India, she meets Bollywood’s director Jamshed JBH Wadia’s younger brother Homi (Saif) who starts casting her in his movies thereby giving her the tag of hunterwali. Post this he falls in love with her and starts writing movies keeping her in mind. Eventually she too falls for him and later they get married. Interesting!

For the one’s who don’t know, Hunterwali was the first lead role for Nadia. She performed many stunts in the film which were applauded by the audience. The film, an expensive venture, was a blockbuster. It inspired numerous products, incorporating Hunterwali in their brand names. Because of the movie’s success, Nadia became a cult icon and starred in numerous stunt films, becoming Indian cinema’s “earliest and most popular stunt actress”.

Earlier when the director was asked about this movie, he suggested that,”The film is set against the backdrop of World War II. “Rangoon is a classic tale that will have the musical charm of Moulin Rouge, the romance of Casablanca and the intensity and drama of Saving Private Ryan.”
